The School of Excellence
The School of Excellence, established in 2019, is a cornerstone of the authentic professional player pathway provided by BVB International Academy (BVBIA). This elite program is designed for top high school players, complementing our College Athlete Placement (CAP) program.
Each year, the top 18 male and 18 female players are selected for an extraordinary training trip to Dortmund, Germany. These 36 deserving players will be immersed in the highest levels of competition and training at the renowned BVB Youth Academy. They will compete against academy professional teams and gain invaluable experience that few players ever encounter.
During their stay, players will explore the rich culture, heritage, and traditions of Borussia Dortmund. They will traverse the vibrant city of Dortmund, experiencing the authentic intensity and passion of BVB firsthand. A highlight of the trip is attending a BVB game at Signal Iduna Park, where they will witness the electrifying atmosphere and dedication that defines Borussia Dortmund.
BVBIA is dedicated to nurturing talent from the earliest ages through to college and professional levels, partnering with one of the best professional European clubs in the world to offer unique and transformative opportunities for both boys and girls.
Selection Process
The journey to becoming a part of the National School of Excellence is a rigorous and competitive process, designed to identify the highest level of talent within the BVB International Academy. Here is a step-by-step breakdown of the selection process:
- Initial Selection
- Kickoff: The selection process begins with players being evaluated by club leadership, coaches and potentially Borussia Dortmund Youth Academy coaches.
- Regional Pools: Players are asked to compete within their age groups for a chance to be selected for their respective regional pools.
- Regional Competitions
- Compete Locally: Selected players from the initial evaluations compete in regional events to showcase their skills and vie for a position in the national pool.
- Regional Selection: Players who excel in these competitions are chosen to travel and compete for a national pool position.
- National ID Event
- Dallas, Texas: Approximately 350 players from across the regional pools come together in Dallas, Texas, to participate in the National ID event.
- National Pool Selection: During this event, players compete in front of a national selection panel. The talent pool is further concentrated as players are evaluated based on their performance.
- Final Selection
- Top 36 Players: From the National Pool, the top 18 boys and 18 girls are selected to form the School of Excellence 2023 Team.
- Announcement: The final roster is announced, and these players earn the opportunity to travel to Dortmund, Germany, for an elite training experience.
The National School of Excellence is dedicated to fostering the highest level of talent and providing unparalleled opportunities for players within the BVB International Academy. Through this meticulous selection process, players are given the chance to develop their skills and compete at the highest levels, both nationally and internationally.
BVB International Academy
WA ID Clinic
Purpose: The BVB International Academy WA ID Clinic is designed to identify top soccer talent in Washington state. Our goal is to provide players with the opportunity to showcase their skills at college showcases and ultimately be recognized as top players within the International Academy system.
What Happens Next: Following the clinic, player pathways will open to represent BVB IA America in local, regional, and national events. Through these events, the most advanced players will be identified and given the opportunity to travel and train in Dortmund, Germany.

Being identified as an elite BVB IA player through the ID Clinic not only enhances a player's development but also carries the responsibility of upholding the highest standards of character, passion for the game, and representing the BVB brand with excellence.
